Recognition of prior learning

Make your experience part of the conversation.

If you have relevant qualifications, previous training or workplace experience, ask whether these can be considered for your chosen programme.

Start with a discussion

Ask which options are available.

Recognition of prior learning, often called RPL, considers knowledge and skills gained through earlier learning or experience.

The availability of an RPL route depends on the programme and its assessment arrangements. Contact the Academy team before assuming that previous experience meets entry or completion requirements.

The team will confirm whether an RPL route is available, what evidence is needed and how it is assessed.

Prepare for the conversation

  • Name the programme you want to join.
  • Summarise your relevant roles and work experience.
  • List relevant qualifications and previous training.
  • Ask which evidence is required and how to provide it securely.
  • Confirm any assessment, fees and decision timescales.

Please do not send sensitive personal documents through the initial enquiry form.
